“World-Class Medicine” to gather international partners and faculty for HMI’s first global health care forum
HMI partners from as near as Baltimore and as far as Singapore are expected to converge in Boston at the end of September for a two-day conference focused on current trends and challenges in global health and education. The event, entitled “World-Class Medicine: Creating Clinical Care Centers of the Future,” will be the first major gathering of representatives from partner organizations in HMI’s history.
The HMI conference, which will take place September 29-30, is being held as a precursor to the annual conference of the International Society of Quality in Health Care (ISQua), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of health care delivery. That event runs from September 30th through October 3rd, and has as its theme the transformation of health care in the electronic age. HMI conference delegates will receive a discounted rate to attend the ISQua conference. Both conferences will take place in the Westin Copley Place Hotel.
“World-Class Medicine” will feature interactive panel discussions led by HMI faculty as well as faculty and leaders from various corners of HMI’s global network of partners. Robert K. Crone, MD, HMI President and Chief Executive Officer, and Senior Consultant John Helfrick will kick off the event by leading a discussion on the current and future impact of health care globalization. Subsequent discussions will explore the global context as it relates to health care systems development, medical education, regional competition among health care providers, and the common challenges faced by HMI’s health care partners around the world: quality improvement, patient safety, and the recruitment and retention of qualified professionals.
“This conference is a great opportunity for HMI faculty and partners to mingle perspectives, talk about common issues, and ideally share strategies and insight,” said Crone. “More than that, while the schedule of issues to be discussed reflects a great deal of what we see happening in health care around the world, the group of people we are expecting as speakers and delegates—including partners from Turkey, Dubai, Korea, and Singapore—reflects also the regions of the world where these issues are playing out in real time.”
