Letter from the Editor

Welcome to the March-April 2008 issue of HMI WORLD.

As one might expect, there was no difficulty in determining what should be the “Top Story” for this issue of HMI WORLD. Harvard University and Partners HealthCare System have struck an agreement that enables us to become Partners Harvard Medical International, or PHMI. This transition comes at the end of detailed discussions between the university and Partners about how best to position our organization for the future, given the widening scope of our work and the tremendous demand around the world for the kinds of services we are able to provide. For the most part, the song remains the same. The same commitment to the highest level of service to clients. The same underlying philosophy that says that one should be able to find health care of a world standard in his or her own community. And the commitment to calling upon resources at Harvard Medical School and its affiliate institutions to contribute their knowledge and expertise to our collaborations with clients.

HMI WORLD is much the same as well, striving to provide the latest information on our work around the world, details on upcoming programs and events of interest,  and articles focused on important topics in health care, education, and research. Cosmetic changes are sure to follow (and an update to the name). I hope that you will continue to visit HMI WORLD and become a regular reader.
