HMI opens Beijing regional office to pursue opportunities in China
For the last two decades, the Chinese health care system has been undergoing a gradual but major transformation. A multitude of factors have led to efforts by the government to expand health care services throughout the country, open the health care market to foreign and private investment, and investigate ways to enhance professional development and education opportunities for clinicians, nurses, and administrators. Now HMI, which has been actively working with Chinese health care organizations for the last several years, has established a regional office in Beijing in order to forge partnerships with organizations in China. |

Research moves forward at Xinjiang Medical University
In the past year Xinjiang Medical University (XMU) in Urumqi, China has made major strides in its quest to become a regional center of excellence for basic and clinical research. In September, faculty from HMI visited XMU to help build on the institution’s recent advances in developing cardiovascular research, oncology research, and medical education programs. |

HMI and Sri Ramachandra measure progress of quality improvement initiative
Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute (SRMCRI) welcomed a team from HMI in September to conduct a survey of the institution’s affiliated hospital, and to further the partners’ collaborative efforts to enhance health care quality and patient safety. The Chennai, India institution has set its sights on accreditation by Joint Commission International (JCI) for the Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, a 1,050-bed teaching hospital. |
