Population-level bioethics brings unique perspective to questions about health and health care
When most people think of bioethics, they focus on the issues that arise between doctor and patient, or between researcher and subject. But as the work of some scholars, clinicians, economists, and others suggests, a broader perspective is necessary to examining how the policies governing clinical practice and biomedical research impact the health and well-being of populations. This notion of population-level bioethics takes a bird’s eye view of long-debated ethical questions in fields such as population policy, environmental health, and political philosophy.

Two Harvard scholars who are major voices in the field explain how the perspective offered by population-level bioethics is helping to inform health care policy and discussion around the world.
