MEDEX and PHMI continue to advance health information website

Last year, MEDEX Global Group, a leading travel assistance company, launched MEDEX 360°m global medical monitor, a comprehensive health information website designed for international travelers. A team from Partners Harvard Medical International (then Harvard Medical International) worked closely with MEDEX on the development of this online tool, collecting and synthesizing information from a large collection of resources to make MEDEX 360°m a powerful repository of information on health care systems, diseases and health risks, and other useful advice for global travelers.

In April, MEDEX and PHMI agreed to renew the terms of their collaboration to enable the PHMI team to continue to provide maintenance of the MEDEX 360°m content, including providing relevant updates to existing content and creating new content, such as summaries of emerging disease outbreaks, as necessary.

MEDEX Global Group specializes in providing emergency medical services, security assistance, and insurance to travelers. From its headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, MEDEX coordinates a global network of more than 40,000 health and security-related service providers—including multilingual physician advisors representing more than 30 medical specialties—who help travelers in need of medical evacuation, repatriation, or advice. Access to the global medical monitor was initially offered to MEDEX’s member list of corporate, scholastic, and government clients. In January MEDEX announced the launch of a new version designed for individual business and leisure travelers.

The Assistance Coordinators and Nurse Case Managers in MEDEX’s 24/7 care center handle an average of 25,000 cases a year, including pre-travel planning and real-time inquiries. MEDEX 360°m was designed as a complement to the real-time services provided by the care center. The website includes profiles for some 236 countries and territories, information on more than 75 diseases and health risks, as well as advice and alerts relevant to travelers.
